It took me less than 5 minutes to upgrade 4 blogs that I’m responsible for on the technical end. If you are a Wordpress user who has shell access to your server and you aren’t using subversion to update, then you are just wasting your time.
I have been looking forward to this release for quite some time. The interface is nicer looking on the back end, and threaded comments are available without a plugin. As with any upgrade, please let me know if you experience any issues. I have tested most things on a test site, but there is always the chance something crazy will happen during a release.

Cool.. When I get home from work I’ll update mine also..
I’m very curious about this release…

I am currently using WP 2.63 and although the back end tells me 2.7 is available I have not got around to upgrading, as soon as I do I’ll drop a comment if there are any problems.

Hi Greg,
The Wife Acceptance Factor worked out well with this upgrade as well. My wife had no trouble with her blog and immediately pointed out a few things that she really liked. Specifically, replying to comments inside of the administrative interface and hierarchical comments.

I hope to upgrade this weekend but while browsing the blogs this morning I came accross someone who has a ‘maintenance’ page up because they had problems with their upgrade, it hasn’t put me off, but I just want to do it when I know I have enough time to sort out any problems if they occur.
Heck I’m going to do it now.

OK Upgrade complete, and appears to be all ok. Did you have to change your theme to allow for the threaded comments to work?
Or does it just work on new posts?

It just worked for me. It worked without modification on all the blogs I upgraded.
I did have to modify my comments.php template to work with the threaded comments but that was all.

Gregs last blog post..Upgraded to Wordpress 2.7
I’ll probably update tomorrow. Unfortunately, my host doesn’t let me use subversion. This is the second time I’ve had to upgrade within a week. (First time was because my host automatically installed an older version)

Wanted to update that the upgrade went smoothly for me. I really like the new interface, very easy to use. The plugin feature is also very cool.

I am so loving WP 2.7. Since I was using the Beta, the update to WP 2.7 was quick. I definitely love the automatic upgrade/update feature and also the threaded comments.

I wish I could upgrade but I am just hesitant. My main blog is still version 5.1 ‘coz I never dared upgrading again. I am just fearful I could go wrong. I don’t have access to our hosting’s control panel so I could not just upgrade with just one click using fantastico.

Kerslyn,
What kind of hosting do you have? If you are hesitant then make a backup first. I have scripts that do all of that, but you can find plugins to backup your database and then just FTP your entire site down before upgrading. You probably should be backing up regularly anyway. Older versions are likely to have known or unknown exploits.
I was very hesitant to upgrade fearing compatibility issues but it turns out everything was upgraded smoothly and I am loving the new 2.7 version. I just have to get used to the new dashboard layout :/

Justin,
I’m finding the dashboard very easy to get used to. This is one of the most useful upgrades in a long time, although I think it mainly affects us as bloggers and not our readers. Thanks for your comment and I’m glad everything upgraded smoothly for you!
I updated 6 blogs to WP 2.7 using the “WP Auto Upgrader” plugin. Took me about an hour, and that included downloading all the backups.
One thing, when you get done, deactivate that plugin so you can use the new “plugin direct installation”. That’s really slick. No more having to download, FTP to the right folder and then activate. The new method puts the plugin right where it belongs and activates it.
I’m impressed. Only found a couple of old plugins that don’t work so far.

Shari Thomass last blog post..I can’t believe it’s December!
Thanks Shari,
I haven’t had a chance to try out upgrading plugins yet. Since I have several blogs on the same host I have a script that I just feed a url and it takes care of all of them at the same time. The only downside is that all the blogs have the same plugins even though they don’t activate them all. I’m not sure if I am going to switch because I want to make sure they keep upgraded, but I probably would use that feature if I just ran my own blogs. I will have to check it out next time a plugin of mine gets updated.
I plan to upgrade the 2.7 version when I find Upgrade link on my host fantastico, because I didn’t have access to ssh and get slow internet connection, so it would take long time to uploading wordpress file.
Also I have tried it in my localhost. It works well

OK got a new problem with 2.7, the commenters url is not being stored in the database. I’ve not found anything yet when googling so can’t say what the reason is exactly
