OK got a new problem with 2.7, the commenters url is not being stored in the database. I've not found anything yet when googling so can't say what the reason is exactly Greg Gregs last blog post..GoodBye Entrecard

I plan to upgrade the 2.7 version when I find Upgrade link on my host fantastico, because I didn't have access to ssh and get slow internet connection, so it would take long time to uploading wordpress file. Kerslyn,

What kind of hosting do you have? If you are hesitant then make a backup first. I have scripts that do all of that, but you can find plugins to backup your database and then just FTP your entire site down before upgrading. You probably should be backing up regularly anyway. Older versions are likely to have known or unknown exploits.

I’m finding the dashboard very easy to get used to. This is one of the most useful upgrades in a long time, although I think it mainly affects us as bloggers and not our readers. Thanks for your comment and I’m glad everything upgraded smoothly for you!

I haven’t had a chance to try out upgrading plugins yet. Since I have several blogs on the same host I have a script that I just feed a url and it takes care of all of them at the same time. The only downside is that all the blogs have the same plugins even though they don’t activate them all. I’m not sure if I am going to switch because I want to make sure they keep upgraded, but I probably would use that feature if I just ran my own blogs. I will have to check it out next time a plugin of mine gets updated.

I updated 6 blogs to WP 2.7 using the "WP Auto Upgrader" plugin. Took me about an hour, and that included downloading all the backups. One thing, when you get done, deactivate that plugin so you can use the new "plugin direct installation". That's really slick. No more having to download, FTP to the right folder and then activate. The new method puts the plugin right where it belongs and activates it. I'm impressed. Only found a couple of old plugins that don't work so far. Paul I hope to upgrade this weekend but while browsing the blogs this morning I came accross someone who has a 'maintenance' page up because they had problems with their upgrade, it hasn't put me off, but I just want to do it when I know I have enough time to sort out any problems if they occur. I wish I could upgrade but I am just hesitant. My main blog is still version 5.1 'coz I never dared upgrading again. I am just fearful I could go wrong. Hi Greg,

The Wife Acceptance Factor worked out well with this upgrade as well. My wife had no trouble with her blog and immediately pointed out a few things that she really liked. Specifically, replying to comments inside of the administrative interface and hierarchical comments.

I am currently using WP 2.63 and although the back end tells me 2.7 is available I have not got around to upgrading, as soon as I do I'll drop a comment if there are any problems. Gregs last blog post..Why bother being debt free?
